The masters listed below are submitted by AUC alumni and provide you as current AUC student with the information they feel you should know if you consider applying for this program.

Behavioural Economics and Game Theory - University of Amsterdam

Which courses at AUC were important for being accepted for this certain master program and why?
Advanced Micro, Macro, BRMS I&II (and Econometrics if offered)

Cognitive and Evolutionary Anthropology - University of Oxford

Which courses at AUC were important for being accepted for this certain master program and why?
Courses from the Cognition track (such as The Empathic Brain), BRMS I and II, Evolution and Human Behavior (VU Honours Course). This MSc is very interdisciplinary, so it helped that I had followed courses from different tracks (as we all did at AUC). Note that I got accepted without having followed courses from the Anthropology track, except Global Identity.
Do you have any other comments for AUC students considering applying for the same program?
It could help to send an email beforehand to the teaching staff to ask about opportunities to work together for the Master’s Thesis. Important comment, I would start searching for additional funding as soon as you hear you got accepted (or, as Oxford recommends, even before hearing the outcome of your application), because most funding deadlines from The Netherlands are already in March/April.

Cognitive Science and Decision-making - University College London

What problems did you face?
I was not accepted into the research master Psychology at UvA because of a lack of background in Psychology
Which courses at AUC were important for being accepted for this certain master program and why?
All courses in the Cognition track

Culture, Organization & Management - VU Amsterdam

What problems did you face?
I found it difficult to find 1 place with 1 clear overview of masters internationally. The information was incredibly widespread.
Which courses at AUC were important for being accepted for this certain master program and why?
Courses in the Social Sciences are most relevant. Generally, bachelor students Liberal Arts & Sciences students are directly eligible for this master program, and will get some extra readings to do over the summer depending on the courses taken at AUC.
Do you have any other comments for AUC students considering applying for the same program?
I find it a great program, and find that my AUC bachelor degree fits this program very well.
– It’s a program that incorporates multiple aspects from the social sciences, and applies it to organizations (in the broadest sense).
– Additionally, it’s international and English-spoken. I believe roughly 40% of the students are from abroad.
– There is a good mixture of assignments and exams. I feel that AUC has prepared me well on the assignments, especially compared to other students in the program.
– Sizes of the class vary between 20, 50, and 80, and there is one course together with another master in which there’s 200 students.

Econometric & Operations Research - University of California, Berkeley

What problems did you face?
You need to complete a pre-master program
Which courses at AUC were important for being accepted for this certain master program and why?
Calculus, Linear Algebra, Probability and Statistics, Micro-Economics
Do you have any other comments for AUC students considering applying for the same program?
The pre-master at Erasmus University is a great preparation & can be combined with a part-time job.

Economics - University of Amsterdam

What problems did you face?
Some universities are skeptical of our “broad” degree. Also lack of financial aid
Which courses at AUC were important for being accepted for this certain master program and why?
300-level economics courses, econometrics and some maths.
Do you have any other comments for AUC students considering applying for the same program?
Make sure you do at least most of the economics tracks and you’ll have no problems

Economics and Policy of Energy and the Environment - University College London

Environmental Policy and Law

European Master in Law and Economics (LLM) - Erasmus university of Rotterdam, University of Haifa, University of Hamburg

What problems did you face?
No law degree or no sufficient credits
Which courses at AUC were important for being accepted for this certain master program and why?
Law credits and brms. But generally high grades were more important.

Global History and International Relations - Erasmus University

What problems did you face?
Some master programmes required me to do a pre-master because I did not have enough ECTs in a specific topic
Which courses at AUC were important for being accepted for this certain master program and why?
The more specific 300 level courses that teach you indepth knowledge
Do you have any other comments for AUC students considering applying for the same program?
Go for it! It really suits our LAS-background and the groups are always very diverse and international. You also really get to know your teachers and vice versa and they are very friendly and helpful.

Human Rights - London School of Economics

Which courses at AUC were important for being accepted for this certain master program and why?
Any law and IR related courses. Law courses in particular weren’t important for admission, but to access all the LLM-related courses available.
Do you have any other comments for AUC students considering applying for the same program?
Well-suited for AUC-students (interdisciplinary degree), but also suitable for those interesting in pursuing a career in law (access to almost all LLM courses at LSE). Courses I had on UK/EU human rights and public international law were outstanding.

Integrated Natural Resource Management - Humboldt University (Berlin)

What problems did you face?
Not having the prerequisite courses. For example the AUC economics track does not prepare well for pursuing a masters degree in this area. Although some of this has been fixed by adding econometrics/more calculus
Which courses at AUC were important for being accepted for this certain master program and why?
Statistics/Calculus, a minimum of 15 EC in these subjects was required. Also a minimum of 10 EC in sciences courses (I was a social science major). Required because it is an Msc. program.
Do you have any other comments for AUC students considering applying for the same program?
Most AUC students will have the required prereqs. for this program. For those applying to more traditional economics programs I recommend taking more calculus/econometrics courses

International Affairs - Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Geneva

Which courses at AUC were important for being accepted for this certain master program and why?
Difficult to answer. Probably the interdisciplinary character of the curriculum, since the Master programme had the same approach.

International Development Studies - University of Utrecht

Which courses at AUC were important for being accepted for this certain master program and why?
it is a very interdisciplinary course. I would suffer any of the social science tracks as economics, politics and sociological requirements need to be met

International Environmental and Climate Change Law (LLM) - University of Edinburgh

Which courses at AUC were important for being accepted for this certain master program and why?
All environment and energy related courses.
Do you have any other comments for AUC students considering applying for the same program?
I would have taken some of the law courses if I would have known I was going to apply for an LLM programme after AUC. I only decided this while writing my capstone.

International Law (LLM) - BSIS / University of Kent

Which courses at AUC were important for being accepted for this certain master program and why?
all my law courses because it’s an llm

International Law (LLM) - University of Utrecht

Which courses at AUC were important for being accepted for this certain master program and why?
As many law courses as possible in order to meet the entry requirements for an LLM program. At the time I was a student this meant taking all the law courses AUC offered.
Do you have any other comments for AUC students considering applying for the same program?
Check the entry requirements well in advance (I would suggest as early as the beginning of third year) in order to be able to take all the courses you might need.

International Relations and Affairs - Leiden University

Which courses at AUC were important for being accepted for this certain master program and why?
social and political science courses, academic English

International Relations and Diplomacy - Leiden University

Which courses at AUC were important for being accepted for this certain master program and why?
The Capstone, the mandatory academic courses, BRMS 1+2, International relations theory and practice, Political thought 1+2, Theme course social systems: globalization and global politics, Comparative public policy

Mental Health Studies - King's College London

What problems did you face?
Several universities asked for a pre-master because the AUC courses I had completed did not meet the requirements for their programmes. Basic Psych courses like social psychology, abnormal psych, and clinical psychology, are just not offered at AUC but are requirements for many masters.
Which courses at AUC were important for being accepted for this certain master program and why?
The courses that I took while I was studying abroad were really the ones that saved me. Had I not completed these, I would’ve hard a much harder time being accepted into a master. Abroad I took abnormal psych, cultural psych, and psychotherapy. Of the ones I took at AUC intro to psych, cognitive psych, and developmental were the most crucial to meet requirements.
Do you have any other comments for AUC students considering applying for the same program?
Look for a way to supplement get the requirements, whether it means taking some UVA/VU courses, or doing them abroad, its crucial if you don’t want to do a pre-master, and want to be on par with your other peers.

Multidisciplinary Economics (research master) - Utrecht University

What problems did you face?
UvA is very strict with applying for Economics masters
Which courses at AUC were important for being accepted for this certain master program and why?
Calculus I, econometrics (the course wasn’t in the curriculum when I studied there, but I had to do a summer course to catch up). Some economics courses (advanced micro, macro) are an advantage but you would probably manage without if you have a quantitative program (science) and/or high grades.
Do you have any other comments for AUC students considering applying for the same program?
Utrecht School of Economics is happy to talk to anyone with any background, only a little calculus is required. If you have doubts, they will be happy to work ut a solution

Psychology, research master - University of Amsterdam

Which courses at AUC were important for being accepted for this certain master program and why?
Statistics (esp. ARMS), 60 ECTS in psychology. Having taken social psychology off campus helped. Research thesis is a must.
Do you have any other comments for AUC students considering applying for the same program?
Do research – minimum for the thesis, any other research experience is a (huge) plus. Statistics and programming are more important than specific psychology courses. Take courses abroad or off campus to make up for deficiencies.

Psychology, research master - University of Amsterdam

What problems did you face?
Missing prerequisites
Which courses at AUC were important for being accepted for this certain master program and why?
BRMS, capstone, major-specific courses
Do you have any other comments for AUC students considering applying for the same program?
High grades compensate for missing prereqs.

Research Master Social Sciences - University of Amsterdam

Which courses at AUC were important for being accepted for this certain master program and why?
Having enough background in research methods; although I was accepted I have experienced not enough background in research methods. Especially qualitative methods; there is no course at AUC (or was no) that focuses on qualitative methods only (e.g. how to do a proper interview? Ethnographic research? Observations?)

Social Cognition - University College London

Which courses at AUC were important for being accepted for this certain master program and why?
This is an interdisciplinary masters in psychology and neuroscience. Probably my mixture of psychology, sciences (biology, physiology) etc. and international experiences?
Do you have any other comments for AUC students considering applying for the same program?
Just go for it! AUC has prepared you really well but beware that the differences in the British system and the need to figure way more things on your own than for British students/those who studied at British unis.
